Savannah Georgia, composer Nicole Chamberlians' childhood haunt, is one of the more ghostloric old habitats in the southern U. S. Every cemetery, old building, dark street, and suburb has its own history of supernatural activity. One can hardly walk at night, anywhere in Savannah, without taking a second look into a nearby shadow. A testament to this spirited city, Appariton begins pianissimo with slow, dark, eerie strings, that when joined by the flutist, gradually develops into a rhythmically driven virtuoso section. This lively tutti is followed by a solo cadenza, in which the mood becomes more hopeful and uplifting for just a moment, until that eerie feeling returns with the re-emtry of the strings, as if to remind us we're not alone after all. Apparition was written for Brazilian flutist James Strauss in 2007. The work received its world premiere Recife, Brazil. Orchestra:
