"Innovation, beauty and virtuosity… these are Benoît Albert’s legacy to an evolving musical culture." – Alan Fark – "Minor 7th" review.
Benoît Albert grew up in Charente, in a Southwest region of France. As a very young man he was inspired by pop and progressive rock. Later on, at the age of 14, he decided to study classical guitar. He acquired his formal education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he graduated with top honors.
As a composer Albert embraces a broad spectrum of musical and multi-artistic interests; including computer music, baroque music, chamber music of various sorts. He has co-created productions involving modern dance (PM4 project), paintings (Paul Storey), and chamber music (les Frères Méduses and la Compagnie des Arts). As a performer, Albert has toured Europe, Venezuela, the US, and Malaysia. His compositions for solo and chamber music are published by Clear Note, and as of this release, Albert has recorded eight CDs, four of which are comprised entirely of his own work.
Randall Avers grew up in Ohio and began playing classical guitar at the early age of six. He began serious training with several prominent teachers: Stephen Aron, Neil Anderson, Aaron Shearer, Olivier Chassain, Erik Stenstadvold, and Tom Patterson; with studies taking place throughout the United States, France, and Norway. From age 17, Avers was a frequent competitor in international competitions, winning prizes from the Guitar Foundation of America, Yamaha France and René Bartoli.
In 2010, Avers received a 2-year "kunstnerstipend" (artist stipend) from the Norwegian Government to research the improvisational and compositional styles of composer Ralph Towner.
In 2010 Towner wrote to Avers: "I have to say in all honesty that I consider your playing the very best that I’ve heard. Your musical sense, dynamics, phrasing and control of multiple voices is at a level I have always sought to achieve".
