John Dowland's Lachrimæ or Seaven Teares (1604) and Anthony Holborne's Pavans, Galliards, Almains and other Short Æirs...(1599) are two of the most important publications of English Consort music from the Elizabethan Era. This edition features modern transcriptions for guitar quintet of the 14 dances that follow the “seven passionate Pavans” in Dowland's Lachrimæ. They are followed by a selection of pieces by Dowland's contemporary, Anthony Holborne, from his Pavans, Galliards and Almaines also arranged for five guitars.
