Béla Bartók’s Mikrokosmos consist of progressive piano pieces in six volumes written between 1926 and 1939. They were designed to be used to develop an appreciation of intervallic, harmonic and compositional form and structure for the pianist.
While the early volumes focused on exercises, the latter ones contained some really beautiful gems. The composer indicated that the pieces could also be played on other instruments. It is in this spirit that I have culled a short suite of miniatures for oboe and guitar that can provide additional repertoire for the concert stage.
