El cóndor pasa is a traditional tune of the Peruvian highlands, a region with a vibrant indigenous culture whose music can be traced to the Incas. The tune was widely popularized in the U.S. in the 1960’s, but was notably championed by the Peruvian musicologist and composer Daniel Alomia Robles whose one-act stage work El cóndor pasa was first performed in Lima in 1913. This arrangement is intended for intermediate guitar ensembles.
