Intermezzo From the opera “Goyescas” • Cello and Guitar • Enrique Granados

Composer Enrique Granados, often referred to as the Robert Schumann of Catalonia, brought modern Spanish music into the home of the avid music lover. Most of the composer's works are for piano solo, and through them he created a unique style of writing for the [then] modern school of Spanish keyboard music. Many of his works have been successfully arranged for guitar and are among the all-time audience favorites in the instrument's literature.

The Intermezzo from the opera “Goyescas” was composed in 1915-1916, and was originally to cover a scenic transition on stage during the opera's premiere at the Metropolitan Opera of New York. It was one of the last compositions by the composer before his untimely death.

We are grateful to Michal Shein, Professor of Cello at the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, who contributed to refinements of this edition.
