A selection from the Microjazz duets collections 2 & 3 by Christopher Norton. Arranged for recorder ensemble.
The first Microjazz piano solo books first appeared in 1983 and they were successful enough to warrant follow-up books - More Microjazz 1 & 2, but also books of Microjazz piano duets. Decades later the duet books are still popular with students and teachers around the world. The pieces in this book, skilfully arranged by James Middleton, are all from Microjazz Duet Collections 2 & 3. They are a varied and stimulating group of pieces and will provide lots of fun for recorder ensembles and audiences.
Throughout a teaching career that lasted over 50 years, ran the range from pre-school to post-graduate, and took him to a dozen countries across four continents, James Middleton has composed and arranged copious amounts of music for his students. He has performed in, and conducted, ensembles including New Zealand’s first professional choir, an illegal choir in Burma, and the first Pakistani ensemble to perform in India. He has done pioneering work with recorder ensembles, guitar orchestras, drumming ensembles and belleplate choirs, and contributed significantly to the development of the Orffchestra.
These Microjazz arrangements were made for two of his New Zealand groups – the award-winning Puffers’ and Blowers’ Union, and Dolce Nova.
