The Owl’s Fandango • Guitar Quartet • Randall Nye
The Owl's Fandango was first performed in 2007 by the Garland High School Guitar Ensemble, at the Academy of Fine Arts Magnet School, from the composer's own printed edition. Subsequent performances were given at the Eastfield College Collegiate Classical Guitar Competition & Festival, the 16th annual Texas Guitar Competition and Festival at the University of Texas at Dallas, and other performances. The current revised edition is formally identical to the original version, but contains several modifications within the parts.
Please note that Guitar IV, measures 41-44, may be played using one of four different techniques (or combinations of) on the top (soundboard) of the guitar:
These approaches may also be applied to the sides of their guitar, instead of the top. All of these techniques will produce a variety of percussive effects. I encourage players to experiment with this.
I suggest that the return to the opening theme, at measure 78, four bars before the dal segno, could be played agitato, with a restless energy, in contrast with the Andante section at letter D.
