Songs of the Irish Bard - Music of Turlough Carolan - for Solo Guitar by David Asbury
In this edition you will find thirty lovingly prepared solo guitar arrangements of works by the blind itinerant poet/harpist Turlough Carolan (1670-1738), who is widely considered to be amongst Ireland's greatest composers. Carolan is a figure at the pinnacle of a bardic tradition that for centuries chronicled the history and cultural traditions of Ireland. In a time of great political unrest, Carolan travelled mainly in the central and northern regions of Ireland, and under a system of patronage, established friendships with many important and influential people. His music and verse so resonated with the public, that he is credited for helping to establish a broader Irish cultural identity that transcended the tensions of historical, political and religious boundaries.
